Sakura let herself out of the makeshift hospital / unused kitchen, and blinked in the relatively bright torchlight lighting up the Akimichi compound. Tsunade’s treatment had gone well… or at least Ino insisted it had and Sakura was inclined to agree that it looked that way. Tsunade was still sleeping. The Akimichi medical-nin had given her a pretty strong sedative when she had come in, but her body looked less tense lying there on the mattress.
The pair of them, Sakura and Ino, had also approached Shizune to attempt the same thing, but the older medical-nin had been so upset that she had refused to take any se

It was dark by the time they returned to the Akimichi compound. Choji was waiting for them outside the meeting hall. Inside the hall, the lights were all ablaze, and she could hear the murmur of voices. She knew for certain that one of them was Naruto’s, she could recognize that loudmouth’s tenor anywhere, but among the more quiet rumblings she thought she could pick out Sasuke. Despite the urgency in Choji’s message, she couldn’t help but ask, “Are they… actually talking in there? Like really meeting?”
Choji shrugged and then nodded. “I think so… Inu-san is in there

Lee exhaled the huge lungful of air he had been holding. “Ahh!” he said happily. “I must say… It does remind me of home.”
Tenten gave the small dilapidated farmstead an uneasy once over. “Are you talking about it being a farm in general or is there something specific about this place that suggests your mother’s rice farm?”
Lee nodded, his face breaking into a grin. “Oh… definitely the smell.”
“It smells like a pig wallow,” Tenten said in a disturbed tone.
Lee nodded. “What do you think we used to fertilize the rice paddies with

Choji tagged along as she wandered throughout the Akimichi compound. It wasn’t very hard to find Naruto’s general location, she just had to follow the sound of his pleading voice. He and Hinata were having a very heated discussion somewhere in the cluster of worn out storage buildings. It took a while, but she finally pinpointed their voices as coming from the top of an old grain silo.
Hinata had stopped talking altogether. Naruto was the only one still speaking and from the sound of it, he was doing it on his knees. Sakura sighed heavily and started to climb up the side of the granary.
“I wouldnR

Of course there was a triage area already set up in the Akimichi stronghold. It was easiest to move their whole operation over there. It didn’t take much persuading for Choza Akimichi to let Sakura set up a small field hospital in a little used wing of the main meeting house. Word had gotten around that she and Team Three were the heroes of the evening.
“One of these days, someone will have to teach that Aburame kid to be more eloquent in his reports,” Jiro grumbled in the doorway. He was keeping one eye on the shed that had been appropriated as a makeshift cell for Sasuke. There had been quite a bit of

Looking back, it was the most terrifying kilometer of her life...but at the time, with the exhilaration of all the extra chakra coursing through her veins, she felt a hair’s breadth shy of invincible. The wind howling through her hair, falling amongst the trees, catching branches sticky with sap and spinning round them to lose momentum. Then in the next moment leaping from tree to tree, sometimes only the faintest touch of her foot or hand keeping her aloft, keeping her from plummeting to the forest floor below. A fall here would mean much more than broken bones, the woods were thick with the lobster tailed monsters, cr

She dragged Kaeru to an empty cell and locked him in. She needed a safe place to put him just in case the monsters happened to come back. Then she and Team Three made their way to the huge steel hatch that sealed the area where Sasuke was being held. “Tenten?” asked Sakura holding out her hand. “Crowbar please.”
Tenten sighed. “I just want to take the opportunity again to tell you what a terribly bad idea this is.”
“Just give me the crowbar.” The clawed end first went into the hinges around the door. Those came off with a shriek of tearing bolts. The whole hatch stayed i

The perimeter of the Hyuga compound was holding, but only barely. The stone walls surrounding the houses were meant more to draw a line for the division of property, to keep the ‘lesser classes’ out of their gardens, than to protect against an invasion of otherworldly monstrosities. Still, the members of the Hyuga clan were trying their best. From the top of the three meter high parapet, they were launching air jutsu and kunai at the ring of fish monsters to prevent them from scaling the sides.
The fighting was thickest around the main entrance. The creatures would rush up in a solid mass, hammering away with

Her proposal was simple. Trial by combat. It was a common way to solve disputes in old time Konoha. The two parties in a dispute would fight, or would find a champion to do their fighting for them, and the one standing at the end of it all would be determined to be in the right.
Of course it didn’t work very well. Usually what would happen was one trial by combat would lead to another, and another and finally the whole thing would end up as a generational blood feud more often than not.
Sakura didn’t want to accept this. There was no good reason to accept this, other than the fact that it solved the issue

Chapter 36: Sakura’s Tale: Paved with Good Intentions
There once was a Sorceress in a small but prosperous valley,
She had pale skin, snow white hair and eyes of sparkling silver.
All who saw her said she was as beautiful as the moon.
She was just and fair.
She was kind and merciful.
She was loved by the people and viewed with high regard by all.
War came to the Kingdom.
Greed filled the eyes of her neighbors and they came with fire and steel.
They enslaved the people and burned the fields.
The Feudal lord and his eldest son rode forth with the army to meet them,
Down in the valley where
